MUGEN is a superb exhibition of mixed genres and artstyles. 5 winning entrants (all above the age of 17) each received an $8,000 grant, and were commissioned to produce a concept which ran over five publications, each episode being 24 pages in length. Each concept has now been compiled into a separate standalone, 144 page Graphic Novel Anthology. Click here for further info.

Below were the governing guidelines of the Initiative. They will give you a quite full overview of the aims & objectives, and how the Arena Volumes came into existence.
Teamwork
Read the Submission Guidelines carefully. In brief, a key focus of IGNITE! is to have writers, pencilers, inkers, colourists/tonists, letterers and page make-up artists come together and create a thoroughly proficient piece of work.
By spreading responsibility, contestants will get a true feel of being part of a professional team, exactly the way famous publications & titles are produced by publishers.
Creators
Only Writers &/or Pencilers will be elligible to have their original Concepts put into production. All concept rights will remain with the Creator. It is possible for a Creator to execute all of the tasks if deemed that he or she is able.
Assistants
These fall under the following categopries when working on another Creator’s concept: Script Writer, Penciler, Inker, Colourist/Tonist, Letterer and Page Make-Up Artist.
Remember, some of you out there might not be able to write or draw, but you love comics. Perhaps you think you can help with computer aided toning, or lettering, or finished page layout. IGNITE! wants to get you involved too. Have a go!
Grant awards
The $5,000 is proportianately divided and allocated for each task. See Submissions Guidelines.
Team building
After taking into account all applicants and their skills, ACAS will assign various participants to work with a Creator as part of a team.
Masterclass
ACAS will conduct a special IGNITE! Masterclass, where in depth storytelling facts and points will be shared.
Mentorship
Following the IGNITE! Masterclass, bi-weekly concept development sessions will be held with all individuals and teams. ACAS members will be just an email away also, to help with writing, drawing or graphical problems you might face.
We want you to have fun and enjoy yourselves, because producing comics isn’t easy!
